Vincent "MEGA" Crane

This modification overwrites and replaces the Jagpanzer IV included in the game with the Jagpanther (also known as the Jagpanzer V). Included in this modification are three different color schemes for the Jagpanther mod 1) a mustard scheme very similar to the pattern used on the Panther in the original game, 2) a dark grey scheme, and 3) a winter scheme.

Also included is an option to allow you to reistall the original Jagpanzer IV.

Historical Perspective

The Jagpanther was based upon the Panther chasis. It was a lethal weapon due to it's long barreled 88 mm gun, low profile and thick sloping armor. The normal crew complement was 5. Production began in December 1943 and a total of 425 were produced by the end of the war.

Most Jagpanthers were deployed on the eastern front. Only a single batallion was equiped with this vehicle at Normandy. However, they appeared in greater numbers for the Ardennes offensive- six battalions were equipped with Jagpanzers totaling 51 vehicles.

Designer's Notes

This installation will overwrite the Jagpanzer IV. I prepared this modification to capture one of the more interesting and visually appealing vehicles that took place in the Ardennes offensive. It is a large vehicle- large enough that it's shape should be recognizable from a distance in the game. So many vehicles are small enough that they appear as little more than specks until you are right on them. On the other hand, the three camo schemes available should make for some good missions as it can cammoflage the Jagpanther from the air if the vehicles are properly placed.

The "L1" and "L2" J3D files are identical since lower quality J3Ds resulted in a noticable change in shape as you approach.

I'd like to thank Fluke for his suggestions and advice on the Winter Camo as well as everyone who encouraged me with their postings during this effort. The website "Actung Panzer- Vehicles of the Third Reich" was an excellent reference including the photos on which this work is based.
