Vincent "MEGA" Crane

Isn't Janes set to take place in the Ardennes forest? This (Version 2)modification is an upgrade to the Five Pine modification. It replaces the individual, randomly placed trees in the original game with a more dense forest of pines and spruce of varying height and shape. This is accomplished by replacing the single tree J3D with a new J3D depicting a cluster of 6 pines and 2 spruce.

Janes utilizes a "cultural" setting to estalish the number of trees in the game. Lower settings result in fewer trees- the lowest setting results in no trees at all. Significant improvement is achieved at the lull setting, but to really get the full value from this mod it will be necessary to change the cultural setting in the ini file to levels higher than permissible from within the game. I recommend a setting of 11 or 12.

This mod is light on detail (each tree has fewer faces and vertices than the default tree) in order to minimize frame rate impacts. If frame rates are too low using a cultural setting of 11, compromise and use a lower value.

This distribution also includes a restore option if you would like to go back to the original single tree.

This distribution includes new textures, but none are greater than 256*256, so no video card compatibility issues are expected.

Special thanks to Swiper for his concept of sqeezing both tree types onto a single 256 bmp.

Installation
------------
Before installing this, or any other, custom modification, you are advised to make a backup of your original ww2.sqs archive.

Extract the contents of this archive to the WWII Fighters\Data directory. Assuming the
default installation, this is: C:\Program Files\Jane's Combat Simulations\WWII Fighters\Data

The files will be extracted to a new directory WWII Fighters\Data\Eight_Tree_Mod.

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the WWII Fighters\Data\Eight_Tree_Mod.

To install the five pines, double-click on the "Install_Megas_Eight_Trees" icon.

To reinstall the original single tree, double-click on the "Reinstall_Original_Tree" icon.

Either selection will open up a DOS session and the installation will proceed in this window. When the installation is complete, a message saying "DONE...CLOSE DOS SESSION" will be displayed in the window. Close the DOS session by clicking on the X close button in the top right corner of the window.

Installation is now complete.

Enjoy!!
