Pappy's P51 Campaign

You are Pappy, a new arrival to a P-51 Pursuit Squadron at Liege air base. As the missions progress, you move up in rank and responsibility. One thing you will notice is that your targets in these missions are not listed as objectives. The only final objective is to reach home in one piece each mission.
In this I have tried to better simulate the actual conditions of war, which account for running for home with battle damage, running out of ammo, and so forth. Success or failure is not necessarily determined by hitting x number of tanks or aircraft.
Here is how I envision these missions being played:

You read the objectives, take off, and fly the mission. Possible outcomes:
  • 1. You are killed in action. (Pappy is dead- no hot seating. Start over)
  • 2. You bail out over friendly lines: Continue to the next mission
  • 3. You bail out over enemy lines: Check your position and decide how good your chances are of being rescued. Close to friendly lines, roll a six sided die. 1-3 = you are picked up by friendlies. 4-6 = Pappy is a POW. Start over. Deep in enemy territory, you have a 1 in 6 chance. If you luck out, continue with the next mission.
  • 4. You complete the mission in one piece. Look at the stats and decide for yourself if the mission was a success or not. Keep tally on Pappy's kills and how many wingmen were lost. If the objective was to hit ground targets, how many did you hit? Sometimes a successful mission is just getting your shot-up mustang home after running out of ammo and having to evade the nazis trying to kill you. Don't just hot seat if you run out of ammo- see if you can get home!!

The goal: get through all ten missions without having been killed or captured. You may lose some airplanes, but even Chuck Yeager got shot down once. Points to remember: If you play this like it's designed to be played, BE SMART!

Try to approach it from the standpoint of a mortal pilot, not a simulation.
For example, don't EVER make head on attacks against enemy planes. The FW and ME109 fire explosive cannon shells that will shred you to pieces. Be aggressive, but remember the most dangerous time is just before you pull the trigger on someone else. CHECK SIX!
Maintain flight integrity- don't fly into a pissed off cloud of krauts by yourself. If your wingmen drop like flies, BUG OUT, but don't leave your buddies in the lurch! If you are out ammo, try flying an opponent into the ground. It's worked for me a couple times. Don't let the bad guys bleed your energy state down to zero with their tactics. Just remember the rule:
IF YOU'RE GONNA BE STUPID, YOU'D BETTER BE TOUGH!
